The Training Choir

The Training Choir helps children who love to sing develop basic musical skills to help prepare them for the Apprentice choir. The training choir is designed mainly for those in 1st and 2nd grades. Based on the Orff approach, these choirs use melodic and rhythmic instruments along with movement to reinforce and develop singing and music reading skills.

There is no audition to participate in the Training Choir. Some students will be invited to join as an outcome of their audition for Apprentice or Choristers. Interested parents should contact Dwight Klaassen or Shelly Black - follow the links for phone numbers and email addresses. The Training Choir meets in the spring semester and is limited to 20 children. The cost for each in the 2011-2012 academic year is $75 per child. A deposit of $40 reserves a seat with the full amount due at the start of the semester. Please send the fee to Dwight Klaassen.

The choir will meet in the choir room at the Platteville United Methodist Church at 1065 Lancaster Street in Platteville. It meets January to April from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. More detailed information can be obtained from the the Children's Choir calendar. Additional information about the calendar will be handed out at the first rehearsal.

The Training Choir will be directed by Jill Hasker. She is an experienced music teacher with a certification in the Orff approach. Jill Hasker will be happy to answer any questions either by email or by phone.

At the end of the program, children will be auditioned to determine their readiness for the Apprentice Singers.
