What to Expect
(Written from a parent's point of view!)
Parents Can Expect:
- congestion in the CFA Parking Lot
- that some will put a lot of miles on the car
- to pay dues for each child
- to pay admission to concerts
- to inform the director about absences
- to volunteer to help with special events
- to purchase PCC T-shirts for each child
- to check folders weekly for memos
- to hear your child sing at home . . . a lot!
- to be invited to make a cash contribution
Singers Can Expect:
- to meet new friends
- to learn much about choral music (sound, tone, pitch, rhythm, time, etc.)
- to be at each rehearsal
- to wear your PCC T-shirt EVERY week
- to invite a friend for the first rehearsal in February!
- to ALWAYS watch your director
- to hear other choirs
- to have lots of fun making good music
- to sing with an accompanist
Everyone can Expect:
- that all singers have a music folder in which directors will sometimes
send information home to parents. Be sure to ask if there is anything for
you in the folder!
- that the November Concert is performed with the adult Chorale. It is a
beautiful concert in which each of the children's choirs will perform
pieces, the Chorale will perform pieces, and the children and adults will
perform together. The Platteville Chorale is the parent organization which
sponsors PCC.
- that sometimes singers will be performing, sometimes listening, and
always listening.
- that the concert at the Rollo Jamison Museum is a great deal of fun and
it's FREE. This concert proves to be a favorite of the kids, and
activities are available to the singers and their
families and friends at the museum. If you are inviting family and
friends, please beware that there is limited seating.
Plan to arrive early for a bench.
- that the Potluck/Informance in March is very enjoyable and a
special treat to parents. More details of this event will be sent home with
singers close to the date. Volunteers are needed to help with organization.
- that the Platteville Children's Choir All Day Tour may well be the
highlight of the year. The singers will travel by bus to four or five area
schools to give a half-hour concert. Lunch will be eaten at Culver's in
Platteville, and each singer is required to have money to purchase their
lunch. More details will be sent home closer to the date of the tour.
Expect your singer(s) to be exhausted at the end of the day!
Further Explanations from Platteville Children's Choir:
- To help alleviate some of the traffic congestion
at CFA,
children in
Choristers can be dropped off and picked up in the semicircle right off
Main Street in front of the CFA. If you also have singers in Apprentice
Choir, you can use the parking lot.
- Carpooling, if possible, is desirable. Contact Shelly Black for
geographic lists.
- Operational costs of PCC include:
- Hiring professional personnel (directors, accompanists, interns)
- Purchasing music
- Printing, postage, copying, technical services for concerts, hall
rental, traveling, etc.
Income to pay the expenses of the operational costs comes from three main
sources:
- Singer's dues (which you can expect to pay on the first night)
- Admission fees for concerts (which you can expect to pay at some of the
concerts)
- For 2010-2011, we expect admission to be $6 per adult
and $3 per student.
- Tax-exempt contributions (which you can
expect an invitation to make)
